Colin Jost's 2024 White House Correspondents' Dinner Remarks
I am losing trust in journalism. There I said it. Why? Well, this is not that.
A few things I noticed when watching this video:
- Journalist think highly of themselves and they don't appear to take criticism very well
- The organizations here believe they are the best. Pay attention to the response, or lack thereof, when Colin shares the job he had before SNL.
- Fox News is actually there. I wonder if the audience pals around with this tabloid when the cameras aren't rolling.
My big takeaway is Colin, just like so many others can recognize a decent person. This is also a reminder of how much I have appreciated other comedians reminding the press they are humans too.
The Petty Feud Between the NYT and the White House
I am losing trust in journalism. Yes, I am saying it again. Why? This article gives part of the reason.
"Still in the throes of covering the Trump presidency, the institution had become acutely self-conscious about criticism that it was out of touch with much of the country."
The biased opinion of most mainstream media outlets continues to do harm to our democracy. They don't seem to cover the news, but project their opinion. I am not sure if the organization or the individual wants to steer outcomes to their preference, but their lack of objectivity is palpable.
"stories about Biden in the Times frequently depicted him as a relic, out of step with younger, more liberal primary voters and, following defeats in the early contests, poorly organized."
I still see value in journalist reporting facts and keeping their opinion to themselves. I don't think the feud is unjustified, but a reflection of the shine of journalism becoming dull.
Landslide from NPR
I believe the GOP will implode sooner than later and they have been operating on cruise control for a while.
Landslide walks you through the reformation of the party, how they struggled to find an identity, and the desperate decisions they have made to stay relevant. Oh, and North Carolina. The sad part is we have to wait another two to three cycles to see what emerges from their inevitable failure.
What does that mean for the rest of the country? I don't know, but I know we need to have a healthy multi-party democratic republic.
Is Black Media in Crisis?? | Olay & Friends
Funny enough, it is. The two most important things happening in our community are Diddy and the Drake v Kendrick beef.
I don't have a solution, but I think collectively we need to change our media diet, support helpful outlets, and remember there is a time and place for entertainment. I don't know if I agree 100% that algorithms are the enemy, because the tools and channels we use currently can take input from the user.
This is the first episode of the Olay & Friends I listened too, but I really enjoyed it enough to subscribe.
The Threat of The Black Male Republican? | Olay & Friends
The title is misleading, but there are a lot of valid points.
- Tim Scott, Candace Owens, and the like are a part of a long con.
- The Republican party has no interest in being a party for the people, but in the interest of a smaller class. Guess what, not everyone is a part of this class.
- Our community needs to do a better job of talking about actual issues and making an impact from the bottom up.
There is so much more in this episode, and it is worth the listen.
